Prof Blyth is Professor of Paediatric Infectious Diseases (School of Medicine, University of Western Australia) and head of the Wesfarmers Centre of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases (The Kids Research Institute Australia). He is an infectious diseases physician at Perth Children’s Hospital, establishing the Department of Infectious Diseases and a clinical microbiologist with PathWest Laboratory Medicine. Prof Blyth’s research focuses on influenza, RSV, COVID-19, vaccine-preventable respiratory infections, antimicrobial resistance and stewardship. In collaboration with the AGAR-Kids group, he has led publication of the first national estimates of antimicrobial resistance in children, and continues to advocate for the importance of community and hospital antimicrobial stewardship programs in healthcare in Australia.
